Sockeye Salmon Bottle

Description

Woodfired in an anagama kiln to cone 13, this bottle measures 14" tall and 6" long and 3" wide. It is made using Jack Troy Anagama clay. The teeth are a domestic porcelain.

A variety of hand building techniques were used to alter this wheel-thrown vessel into the freshwater fish monster you see here. Glazed on the interior with Maria's Oribe, Flashing and Porcelain slips were used on the outside and the head, tail and fins were highlighted with Maria's Oribe. Although it is functional, the artist recommends careful handling if it is to be used, and feels this piece would be best appreciated as the sculptural art it really is. This vessel is for sale at $268 plus shipping.

That is some incredible craftsmanship. I've never heard of an anagama kiln, but upon looking it up, that sounds like a lot of work! Esp. to get to cone 13 - that's damn hot.
